16th Havana Int'l Theater Fest dedicated to British Peter Brook

Noel Bonilla, from the organizing committee, announced they have confirmed the participation of 43 foreign companies from 23 nations and that there will be a national sample with 16 awarded companies with relevant performances, and that some of the sub-venues of the event will be Pinar del Río, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos and Sancti Spíritus.

Furthermore, he reported the inauguration will be on September 22, at Havana’s National Theater in Covarrubias Room, with the work Charenton, run by Flora Lauten and performed by Teatro Buendía, a company that celebrates its 30th anniversary this 2015, where Peter Brooks' message addressed to Cuban playwrights will be shown.

There will also be a parallel agenda in areas like Trompoloco Carp, Raquel Revuelta's Cultural Center and La Villa and Miramar theaters, with programs including Opera de la Calle and Teatro Escambray Company, among others, and, once more, the successful musical piece Rent, this time in concert, at Fábrica de Arte Cubano center.

There will be also activities with outstanding theater companies such as Miron Cubano, from Matanzas; Moron Teatero, and Cecilia de Barro, from Ciego de Avila, and Teatro Andante, from Las Tunas, which will take place in streets and squares.

In addition, a colloquium dedicated to the 30 years of Teatro Buendia is being scheduled, as well as art exhibitions and projection of audiovisuals and workshops. The closing activity will take place at the National Theater's Avellaneda Room, with the prestigious Ballet of Montecarlo and Cinderella choreography.

Peter Brook was born in London, in 1925. He belongs to the theater vanguard mostly, though he has successfully ventured within the cinema and opera fields. His best hits consist of several productions of Shakespeare's works, and his experience with the Cruelty Theater finishes with Marat/Sade (1964) and the staging of The Mahabharata(1987).
