While Iglesias won favorite pop artist and party-starting song for "El perdon" with Nicky Jam, Daddy Yankee won favorite urban artist and fan club of the year for "#DYArmy".

The other winners in the award show, hosted by Telemundo, included bachata singer Romeo Santos for favorite tropical artist and Gerard Ortiz for favorite regional Mexican artist.

The award ceremony, held at American Airlines Arena, also recognized the actors of Telemundo, an American Spanish language broadcast television network.

The main acting awards went to Rafael Amaya, Christian de la Campa, Scarlet Gruber, Fabian Rios and Carmen Aub, all of whom took home two trophies each.

Over 10 million Telemundo viewers voted for their favorite stars on PremiosTuMundo.com, more than double from 2014.

Telemundo also honored Chilean presenter Mario Kreutzberger, better known as Don Francisco, whose show "Sabado Gigante" by rival channel Univision will come to an end on Sept. 19 after a 53-year-long run.

Mexican singer Lucero handed over the trophy to Don Mario and Chilean Michele Bachelet paid him a video tribute for inspiring and uniting people through his art and his philanthropic and humanitarian work.

In one of the evening's highlights, veteran singer-actor Angelica Maria paid tribute to "the people's poet" Joan Sebastian who recently passed away after a long illness.

Maria applauded the late poet's courage to express his feelings without fear of rejection, and for his simplicity, warmth and humanism before giving way to Lucero, who performed one of the biggest hits of the late Mexican singer-songwriter.

Performances by Nicky Jam, Fanny Lu, Alejandra Guzman, Farruko, Yuri, Olga Tañon, J Balvin, Jencarlos Canela, Victor Manuelle and Banda MS de Sergio Lizarraga ranged from urban to regional Mexican.

Another high point was the warrior spirit award that recognizes an artist's determination to triumph despite all odds.

Puerto Rican Olga Tañon handed the award to fellowman Nicky Jam whose song "El perdon" with Enrique Iglesias spent more than 20 weeks on Billboard charts.

Nicky Jam, who battled addiction, thanked Puerto Rico for giving him "flavor and talent" and Colombia for giving him a second chance.
