Elliott Erwitt to Take Photos of Legend Alicia Alonso in Cuba

"It has been wonderful to be able to see this great ballet lady and to watch her working and directing a class ", declared Erwitt, 87 years old, for the television. He started his professional career at the end of the 1940s.

Erwitt has been witness of historic moments and has captured images of great personalities in contemporary history, among them, presidents John Kennedy and Richard Nixon, Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev and legendary Argentinian-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara.

Alicia Alonso, who has the “prima ballerina assoluta” rank, the highest a dance artist can aspire to, actively directs the company she founded in 1948 and accompany it in each one of its international presentations despite her age.

The Cuban National Ballet will present the classic ballet Giselle at the end of this month in a gala for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Santiago de Cuba city.
