Chupa piruli is the title of the project I expect to shoot during 2015, and although it has the name of a reggaeton song, it is not a musical, affirmed in an exclusive for AIN news service, the renown Cuban filmmaker Fernando Pérez, National Cinema Award.

Pérez advanced the action takes place at Los Sitios neighborhood in Havana, and he classifies it as a joyful drama because this is not a film with an intense conflict like La pared de las palabras, his most recent film premiered during the 36th New Latin American International Film Festival (FINCL, as per its initials in Spanish).

After winning three collateral awards in the event, that concluded last week in the Cuban capital city, the director of the multi-awarded film La vida es silbar, reaffirms himself as an inexhaustible creator, who already counts with the 80% of the financing the new project will require.

Something I like the best in life is constant evolution, but you have to remain yourself in that change, that´s why I keep the expectations and the desire to work, affirmed the 70-year-old artist.

Pérez commented he will make the Chupa pirulí project in coordination with the Cuban Cinema Institute (ICAIC, as per its initials in Spanish) and that he advocates for searching mechanisms that make the audiovisual more dynamic, present challenge that focuses the debates about cinema in Cuba.

The director of films like Clandestinos, Madagascar, La vida es silbar, Suite Habana, and José Martí: el ojo del canario, is a consecrated creator who explores the discursive and reflexive potentialities of the seventh art.

During the recently concluded FINCL, and based on its values, the film La pared de las palabra, deserved the collateral prizes conferred by the Cuban National Federation of Cineclubs, the Cuban Association of the Cinematographic Press and the cyber-vote of the Foundation of the New Latin American Cinema Web.
