The funds will be allocated to the construction of an educational complex designed to serve more than 200 orphans and abandoned children in Barranquilla, Colombia, a project that will be completed in April 2015, Goya said in a communique.

Anthony's foundation began operations in June 2012 with the aim of attending to the housing and educational needs of disadvantaged children in Latin American countries.

The donation will help buy supplies for a halfway house and a school for Barranquilla kids, in addition to providing funds to purchase clothing and food and hire personnel for several academic, social and recreational programs.

The facilities at the orphanage include a library, classrooms, sleeping quarters, a medical clinic and inside and outside recreation areas, as well as a soccer pitch, among others.

This is the second social initiative undertaken by Maestro Cares after the inauguration in April of its first orphanage in La Romana, Dominican Republic, which houses 100 children.

Officials with Goya Foods told Efe that the company had already donated $150,000 to Maestro Cares in 2013 to develop the La Romana complex.

Meanwhile, the firm has supplied 100,000 pounds of food to the La Romana orphanage.
