FAO Celebrates World Food Day in Cuba

FAO celebrated World Food Day in Cuba, after carrying out an intense program of activities for several weeks, on occasion of that date, which included a panel on nutrition. The representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Theodor Friedrich, said in an interview with Prensa Latina that such a plan also included a drawing contest, lectures and technical talks, as well as the realization of a sports career starting in 10 de Octubre municipality.
A concert by Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes, a FAO´s Goodwill Ambassador, and a special edition of a book about organic agriculture drawn up by the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forestry Technicians, are also on the list.
This commemorative date also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the founding of this international organization.
Friedrich explained that the mission of this organization is to help the country members to achieve food security and sovereignty, through the implementation of projects, technology transfer and advice, training, among other actions.
According to the diplomat, after the triumph of the Revolution, FAO´s cooperation with Cuba increased, which was reinforced with the beginning of many projects, some of which emerged in the country as study centers, among them, the Institute of Food Research.
