The presidents of Cuba, Raúl Castro, and Palau, Thomas Remengesau, led the ceremony of establishment of diplomatic relations between both nations. As part of his busy schedule in New York, where he attends high-level forums of the United Nations, Raúl Castro signed yesterday the agreement that formalizes that decision, like his counterpart from Palau, said today the newspaper Juventud Rebelde.

During the meeting at the UN headquarters, the President of Palau said "this fact symbolizes respect that Cuba has for the small countries".

My country cherishes this relation and we will do everything we can to make it prosper, Remengesau said.

Meanwhile, Raúl Castro said that no matter the distance or the size of countries, his government decided to have ties with all nations and it currently has relations with the majority.

The Cuban president continued on Saturday with a busy work schedule, which included meetings with US former president William Clinton, the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löfven, the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, and important American businessmen.
