Conference on Safety and Health at Work Underway in Las Tunas

The Conference on Safety and Health at Work, which analyzes every November incidents and accidents occurring in the workplaces, began this week and will run until the end of the month. The Stainless Steel Company (Acinox), entity that despite the high risks involved in industrial production, stands out here in the protection of its collective, was the venue of the inauguration.
José Reyes Ruiz, deputy director of the Provincial Directorate of Labour, and responsible for overseeing this issue, noted that 244 accidents have occurred so far this year, 42 more than in 2013.
“However only two people have died in 2014, while in the same period last year we regretted five deaths, as well as the number of matched accidents has also decreased. Beyond the statistics such events always affect families and companies, hence the need to look for the causes to prevent them,” the official said.
Accidents at work that have occurred this year have been fundamentally for individual responsibility (for all non-employment of means of protection) and to a lesser extent due to technical or organizational problems; but as noted Reyes there is not always a single reason the cause of these events: “behind a behavioral cause there is some organizational oversight, and technical failures often respond to the indolence of workers, who did not review the equipment before use it.”
Training spaces for leaders and technicians in health and safety, taken into account that prevention is always the first step to avoid accidents are among the activities scheduled.
The workers are also debating this issue, while they must protect themselves, knowing they are the most valuable for the institution they represent.
The closing of the conference will also be held in Acinox on November 28th.
