PhD Enrique Arango Arias, technical assistant director of the National Center for Seismological Research (Cenais), told Granma newspaper that, due to the distance from Cuba of the epicenter of the 5.9 magnitude quake that shook Haiti Saturday night, the eastern Cuban provinces were not affected.

"It is true that it was felt strong in Baracoa, Moa and other sites of Guantánamo and Holguín, as well as moderately in this province," said the head of the National Seismological Service, "but no magnitude or other data is issued for one place or another, but expressly for the point where the epicenter was located.

According to the network of the National Seismological Service, the 12th perceptible earthquake so far in the current year 2018 in Cuba, took place at 8:11 p.m. this October 6, and was located at 20,130 degrees North latitude and 73,055 degrees West longitude, at a depth of ten kilometers.

It was perceptible in all the municipalities of the province of Guantánamo, in Moa, Sagua de Tánamo, Mayarí and Tacajó (Banes), in the province of Holguin, and in Songo-La Maya, Segundo Frente and Santiago de Cuba, without any damages.

At 4:00 p.m. this Sunday, earthquake No. 13 was recorded as perceptible, located at coordinates 20.11 degrees North latitude and -73.02 degrees West longitude, 116 km east of Maisí, Guantánamo province. It had a magnitude of 5.2 at a depth of eight km.

It has been reported as perceptible in the province of Guantánamo; in Moa, Sagua de Tánamo, Cueto and Mayarí in the province of Holguín; and in Songo-La Maya, Segundo Frente and Santiago de Cuba. (ACN)
