Patrick Leahy, a Vermont senator, issued a statement today calling it Trump's empty regression decision that hits Americans' freedom to travel, the US national interest, and the people of Cuba.

According to the High House member, it must be obvious to all that this is a political favor of the president to a few influential members of Congress who have never set foot on the island and who represent a tiny minority of the American people.

'Even the majority of Cuban-Americans oppose this return to a failed policy of punitive sanctions,' he said.

A growing bipartisan superiority in the Senate supports the removal of all restrictions on Americans' travel to the Caribbean nation, none of which applies to Americans when they visit any other place, he added.

By its part, Kathy Castor, the representative for Florida, lamented that Trump backslides on the progress made with the approach to Cuba, and said that the citizens of this country should be allowed the freedom to go wherever they want without so much bureaucratic paperwork.

'What a terrible decision. We worked so hard to re-open ties to Cuba. It's incredibly disappointing to see this historic progress reversed,' California Congresswoman Barbara Lee wrote on her Twitter account.
