The president of the Cuban National Association of Jurists (UNJC) Jose Alexis Ginarte urged today those who administrate justice in the country to act smart, keeping their integrity.

In his speech during the opening session of the 8th UNJC Conference, currently held at the Havana Conference Center, he insisted on raising the standards of professional training and practicing constructive criticism.

In the current situation in the country, it is necessary to eliminate bureaucratic practices, obsolete thinking, illegalities and all forms of corruption, Ginarte remarked.

He highlighted that 'our job demands today from us to act consistently, but smartly, keeping our integrity.'

We should support the process to strengthen the country's institutions, without improvising, because the required political maturity is vital for this purpose, the lawyer said.

'One of our challenges,' in reference to the UNJC, 'is to contribute to train the new generations of professionals of Laws, and to expand the legal culture to the population,' he said.

'It is imperative to develop a Cuban legal doctrine, starting from our historic experience and the Revolution's humanist values,' Ginarte remarked.

The event, which will conclude tomorrow, is dedicated to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, with the participation of 242 delegates.
