The Demolition of International Law

UNRWA Headquarters in East Jerusalem Demolished by Israeli Forces
In recent days, International Law, along with the rules and organizations created to maintain global order and peace—including the United Nations—faces serious threats.
It is not new for the rights of the poorest to be violated, nor for the richest and most powerful to impose their will, even using the rules of the aforementioned organizations.
What is new is that now, not only do they not feel obligated to be accountable to them, but they attack them without shame or restraint.
Palestine as the Clearest Example
Palestine is the clearest example of how financial elites, those who grow richer every minute, escalate their intentions to profit from people's suffering, even as their mask falls.
We could speak of the "Peace Board" that Trump plans for Gaza, to which he has invited the same actors who financed the bombs and missiles that devastated that territory. But we will refer to Israel's attack on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), located in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Al-Quds, an area of Jerusalem occupied by Israeli forces.
A few hours ago, a military convoy escorted the excavators that demolished the facility. Every stone torn down was a challenge to International Law, a clear message of the occupier's arrogance and that the genocide does not stop.
A Failing International Order
Palestinians have been victims not only of Israel but also of an international order that has failed them. Now, with this attack on an organization tasked with channeling UN efforts to aid this suffering people, the situation becomes even more terrible.
According to specialized media, the UNRWA Commissioner-General denounced that the demolition represents an "unprecedented attack on a UN agency" and warned that the Israeli action could set a dangerous precedent for other international organizations.
Legal Pretext and U.S. Complicity
This attack had been in preparation for months, when the Israeli parliament approved several resolutions against UNRWA's operations, in a clear attempt to lend legal character to this action against UN immunity and the United Nations Charter.
U.S. assistance to Israel in reinforcing the industry of death has also been crucial for this. In just the last two years, the Empire has granted over $20 billion in military assistance to Israel.
Devastating Human Toll
This generous aid has resulted, according to data from the Gaza Ministry of Health and UNRWA, in an estimated more than 72,000 Palestinians killed from October 7, 2023, to January 2026, approximately 169,000 injured, and over 1.9 million people (nearly 85% of Gaza's population) displaced from their homes.
A Threat to Global Order
The actions of the United States and Israel have become a threat to a world order that, although weakened and in urgent need of reform, remains for now the only guarantee that global confrontations do not become greater.
A board of millionaires and powerful actors operating outside International Law will bring nothing good for the Palestinian people or any other.
The UN is also under attack, and there is an urgent need for diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for the self-determination and right to life of peoples to prevail in order to preserve peace and life on the planet.
