LA Schools to Reopen Wednesday after FBI Dismisses Threat

The schools were threatened with an attack with bombs and firearms, which the authorities considered "credible" in the morning.

President of the School Board, Steve Zimmer, said in a press conference, after inspecting 1,531 schools in Los Angeles, investigating agencies concluded they were safe and students can return to classes Wednesday.

Zimmer applauded efforts by the educational community during the day and collaboration between the different security forces.

Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, said at the same press conference the FBI concluded after its investigation the "threat is not credible," and stressed the city "is safe."

In a statement, LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines acknowledged it had been a difficult day after LAUSD was closed down for the first time in decades.

The decision to close the schools was taken to ensure protection and security, he added.
