As Eric Harris lay dying from the shot wound, another police officer responded to his calls of “I'm losing my breath” with “F*ck your breath.”

A Black man shot by a U.S police officer was told “F*ck your breath,” as he lay dying after telling the police “I'm losing my breath.” A new video recording, which emerged Friday, shows Eric Harris dying from the shot wound from Oklahoma reserve officer Robert Bates. Harris was taken to the hospital, where he died about an hour later.

Tulsa Police Sgt. Jim Clark told the press conference that the Tulsa County Sheriffs Office inquiry decided that Bates was not guilty of a crime. Bates claims he mistakenly shot the man dead with a firearm, thinking he was using a taser. “Oh! I shot him. I’m sorry,” the video depicts the 73-year-old reserve officer, who is a wealthy donor to the sheriff's department, as saying.

According to the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the other law enforcement officers at the scene were unaware of the error that had occurred, which, they said, accounted for why they did not aid Harris when he was calling out for help.

One even held down the victim's head with his knee in an apparent effort to subdue him. The spokesperson told a news conference that Reserve Deputy Robert Bates was a “true victim of slips and capture,” a police expression for when an officer tries to do one thing but does another in a highly tense situation.

The tragedy comes just a week after a white officer shot an unarmed black man as he was trying to run away, adding to a string of similar incidents. The video released by the police can be viewed below.
