Cuban wrestlers will hold a training base in Azerbaijan from today until May 31 as preparation for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next August.

Ten wrestlers and equal number of exponents in the freestyle will travel to the European nation, opportunity they will use to continue training in conjunction with Azeri athletes.

Raul Trujillo, head coach of the men's Greco-Roman team, told ACN that this match will be very helpful because the wrestlers from that country have much experience and competitive level, so it will be essential to make the most of it, he said.

The list in this modality is headed by Mijail Lopez (130 kilograms), double Olympic champion and five-time world monarch.

It also excels Ismael Borrero (59 kilos), last year's universal monarch; and Miguel Martinez (66), Yurisandy Hernandez (75) and Yasmany Lugo (98).
Javier Duménico (59), Alexander Casals (66), Gilberto Piquet (85), Reinier Monteagudo (98) and Keldi Josef (130) complete the group.

Meanwhile, Livan Lopez (74), third seat in London 2012 Olympics; and Reineris Salas (86), silver medalist at the world championships of Budapest 2013 and Taskent 2014, are the main highlights among Cuban representatives of freestyle mode.

But, we should also include Yowlys Bonne (57) and Javier Cortina (97), winners of bronze medals in Taskent, as well as the double continental holder Alejandro Valdes (65).

Davian Quintana and Franklyn Marén, both in the 65 kilos, Yuniesky Torreblanca (86), and Andres Ramos and Yudelmis Alpajón (125) will also attend the training base.

Cuba has already secured 10 tickets for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
