A new friendly meeting between yacht clubs from Florida and Cuba began today on the grounds of the Hemingway International Yacht Club, located in west of the capital. To confirm the development of sport and recreational events in Cuba, the meeting will consist of several activities, among which a yacht parade tomorrow from Almendares River to Havana Bay.
According to the commodore of the Hemingway International Yacht Club, Jose Manuel Diaz Escrich, the "Morro Castle of Havana" yacht race, scheduled for April 9, on the same route, will be also carried out.
Bob Harvey, commodore of Key West Yacht Club, as well as managers and members of the Bradenton Yacht Club and Sarasota Yacht Club, will participate in those activities, Escrich said.
Cuba was a prohibited destination for American competitors since 1961, now, with the new perspective after the restoration of diplomatic relations between Washington and Havana, those activities begin to strengthen.
