Cuba Reaches Eight Olympic Tickets in Boxing

With the classification of Erislandy Savón (91 kilograms) and Leinier Peró (plus 91), Cuba came today to eight boxers qualified for the Olympic Games of Rio of Janeiro in 2016. Savón obtained his Olympic ticket after setting for unanimous voting in semifinals of the continental tournament on Brazilian fighter Juan Gonzalvez, before whom he discoursed his good boxing style, from the first to the last round.

"It was the moment for which I was waiting, an award at every hour of training for so many years," expressed the Pan-American champion in Toronto 2015 to the reporters, shortly after classifying himself for the finals.

For his part, Peró defeated Clayton Laurent, of Virgin Islands, who could not do much against the boxing workmanship of his rival on the ring.

"I feel relieved after winning, the rigor of the competition demands very much, and I can only train and get better for the Games. I have managed to increase my weight, and I think to gain a few pounds more up to go to Rio 2016," he said.

Regarding the fight, the Caribbean fighter thought that it was less hard than the previous one, because Laurent's style is more accessible to his, and also he spoke on its following rival.

This way, Cuba comes to eight quotas in boxing, the only Latin-American nation with such a quantity of classified athletes, along with Brazil, which had six tickets between both sexes as by its conditionas host of the Games, and has gained one more till now.

For Cuba, another opportunity stays in this contest, since in hours of the evening, it will raise with world champion and Olympic Roniel Iglesias (69), who must celebrate a good combat against Alberto Palmetta (Argentina).
