The young Leopardos from Santa Clara, representing Cuba, defeated Nicaragua 8-6 today to remain unbeaten in the Latin American Little League Series in the 9-10 age category, currently taking place in Monterrey, Mexico.
Led by manager José Yadián Ganuza, the Cuban team took another step toward advancing to the next stage of the tournament by securing its third consecutive victory. The win keeps them at the top of Group B.
After opening with a win over one of the two local Mexican teams and defeating Panama on Tuesday, the team known as the "Pilongos" will face their toughest challenge in group play tomorrow when they meet Venezuela. The Venezuelan team also remains undefeated after beating Mexico earlier today.
Cuba will conclude group play on Friday against Chile, a team that has yet to register a win in the tournament.
So far, the Cuban squad has made a strong impression in Monterrey, displaying grit, determination, resilience, and mastery of the game's fundamentals. These qualities earned them the national championship title and have continued to serve them well in international play.
