Cuba entered 8 judokas, four of them Pan American Champions, to rival 172 fighters from 32 nations that will be competing at the Grand Prix Tournament in Cancun, Mexico, June 16 through 18.

The Pan American champions are: Osniel Solís(66 kg), Iván Silva(90 kg), José Armenteros (100 kg) and Alex García (more than 100 kg), also winners by teams in the recent Pan American Championship in Panama City, now training for the World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

Cuba also entered Andy Granda, silver medal at the Pan American in the 100 kg.

For the women competition Cuba will be represented by Anailys Dorvigni (57 kg), Olga Masferrer (70 kg) and Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg), among the competitors announced in the website of the International Judo Federation.

From the Latin American and Caribbean region, Mexico entered 19 judokas among men and women; Brazil, 17; Venezuela (7), Peru (7), Panama (2), Bahamas (2), Colombia (2), Guatemala (2), Argentina (1), Curaçao (1), Ecuador (1), Puerto Rico (1), El Salvador (1), Haiti (1), and Aruba (1).

The tournament, one of the eight Grand Prix of the year, awards 770 points for winners of each of the 14 divisions, seven by sex.

The Cubans had a previous preparation phase in the Federal District of Mexico, following its successful performance in the Panamanian contest, where they also won the competition by teams and won the ticket to the World Championship in the Hungarian capital.
