Italy PM Renzi meets Cuban President Raul Castro

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi met on Wednesday (October 28) with Cuban President Raul Castro in Havana on the last leg of his Latin American and Caribbean tour.
Castro greeted Renzi with full military honours at Havana’s Revolution Palace before the two held talks, accompanied by their diplomatic delegations.
Renzi is in Cuba for a 24-hour visit to strengthen the relationship between both countries. Renzi and Castro met last May in Rome.
During his visit, Renzi toured the historic centre of Havana and laid a wreath at the monument to independence hero Jose Marti at Revolution Square.
Earlier in the day, the Italian prime minister chaired a business forum at the Hotel Nacional, in which he called on Italian business people to invest in Cuba, highlighting opportunities in tourism, agribusiness and renewable energy. He also spoke at Cuba’s famed arts school, the Higher Institute of Arts, or ISA.
Renzi is being accompanied by 60 Italian entrepreneurs and business leaders in a bid to boost opportunities, according to Italian media.

Renzi’s visit to the region has taken him to Chile, Peru and Colombia. His tour of the region ends in Cuba.
