Cuba Readies for 9th Day Against Homophobia

The 9th Cuban Day Against Homophobia will propitiate spaces for debate, sporting events, galas and fashion shows starting on May 10, reported the director of the National Center for Sex Education (Cenesex) Mariela Castro. This year, for the second consecutive year, the event will be dedicated to claim workplaces free of homophobia and transphobia.
According to Mariela Castro the context in which the event will take place is very favorable.
At the 7th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, held between April 16 and 19, were discussed issues related to non-discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, Mariela Castro said.
The organizers confirmed that on May 13 will be held a gala, which will be attended by the popular Spanish singer Marta Sanchez, as well as by renowned Cuban artists such as Cucu Diamantes, Camerata Romeu, among others.
They also announced that for this 9th edition will take place the traditional conga on May 14, which will depart from the Piragua and will end at La Rampa.
The Sports Festival for Diversity, scheduled for May 21 will be the last activity.
