Xi Jinping highlights role of the South in current global context

Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the international role of countries in the Global South, including China and Latin American and Caribbean nations, in the face of a turbulent global context.
 
The president made these comments in a letter congratulating the IX Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held in Honduras, the bloc’s pro tempore presidency.

According to Xi, CELAC has played a key role in defending regional peace, promoting development cooperation, and advancing integration. “I sincerely wish that the countries and peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean will achieve greater success on their path toward development and revitalization, further contributing to the unity and collaboration of the Global South,” he stated.

The Chinese president emphasized that relations between China and Latin America have withstood changes in the international arena and are now at a new stage characterized by equality, innovation, openness, and shared benefits.

According to the president, both sides have deepened political trust, expanded practical cooperation, and strengthened cultural ties, benefiting both peoples and establishing a model of South-South cooperation.

Xi reiterated China’s commitment to advancing the building of a regional community of shared future. He also reiterated his invitation to the bloc’s member countries to participate in the upcoming China-CELAC Ministerial Forum, in Beijing, scheduled for the first half of this year.

President Xi urged CELAC member countries to take advantage of this event to discuss development plans, strengthen joint cooperation, and thus contribute to addressing global challenges, reforming global governance, and maintaining international peace and stability.
