World Leaders Voice Support for Cristina Fernández

More than 100 leaders from dozens of countries have expressed their support for former Argentine President Cristina Fernández and condemned the prison sentence and political disqualification she currently faces.
These expressions of solidarity were conveyed during a hybrid (virtual and in-person) meeting held at the headquarters of the Justicialist Party (PJ), where participants discussed actions forming part of the international strategy for the “Cristina Libre” campaign, according to a statement issued by the political organization.
The PJ was represented by its Secretaries of International Relations, “Tano” Menéndez, and of Regional Relations, Soledad Magno, who were joined by other party officials, including former Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana and former Argentine ambassadors.
Fernández is scheduled to appear in court this coming Wednesday, where the presiding judge will consider the defense’s request to grant her house arrest. Justicialist leaders have already announced plans for a historic mobilization to accompany her to the Comodoro Py federal courthouse.
From the PJ headquarters at 130 Matheu Street in the Balvanera neighborhood, attendees reviewed key irregularities in the legal proceedings, linking them to Argentina’s broader context of social, political, and economic deterioration, as well as to the regional and global rise of right-wing movements.
Speakers emphasized that the court ruling endorses the judicialization of politics and undermines democratic institutions, highlighting features of lawfare, a strategy repeatedly used against leading progressive figures across Latin America.
Government representatives, lawmakers, and party officials from over 20 countries took the floor to express full support for Fernández and affirm her innocence in a trial marred by irregularities, bias, and violations of due process, the statement added.
As part of the international strategy, the presence of foreign observers at Wednesday’s mobilization—intended to ensure Fernández’s safe return home following her court appearance—was also announced.
Simultaneous actions will be held in front of Argentine embassies abroad, along with a variety of events to raise awareness for the “Cristina Libre” campaign.
