The International Theater Institute (ITI) will dedicate the International Dance Day to the prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, according to Cuba's National Museum of Dance.
With the purpose of celebrating this year the birth centenary of the legendary dancer, the ITI/UNESCO secretariat announced that the entity's newsletter corresponding to the International Dance Day will be dedicated to Alicia Alonso and there will be a link to a website specially created to pay her tribute.
The production of this anthology has been possible thanks to the collaboration among the Spanish delegation of ITI/UNESCO, the Alicia Alonso Dance Foundation in Madrid and Cuba's National Dance Museum.
The material to disclose her life and work is now available on the website https://dia-internacional-de-la-danza-alicia-alonso.jimdosite.com and by visiting this website people can ratify that the Cuban dancer was among the best worldwide.
Every April 29, the world celebrates the International Dance Day, instituted by UNESCO in correspondence with the birthdate of the French great teacher and choreographer Jean Georges Noverre.
Various companies and artists on the planet planned to offer shows this year to commemorate Alonso's birth centenary.
However, on account of coronavirus' times, the ITI/UNESCO Secretariat decided to arrange a virtual international tribute in recognition of the extraordinary artistic work of the Cuban dancer who died in 2019 and was distinguished as a UNESCO World Ambassador.
