Venezuelan media highlight pardon to Government's opponents

Caracas, Sep 1 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan digital and printed media on Tuesday highlighted the presidential pardon to 110 opposition political leaders with open judicial processes.

Newspapers like El Universal, Panorama and Ultimas Noticias, among others, published the news on the front page, while social networks included the names of those who benefited from the presidential pardon.

On Monday, Sectorial Vice President for Communication, Tourism and Culture Jorge Rodriguez noted that the decree will come into force after being published in the Official Gazette.

The measure, which took the country by surprise, will benefit more than 100 opposition leaders, including lawmakers from the National Assembly, who were granted parliamentary immunity.

Among those pardoned are right-wing leaders such as Freddy Guevara, Henry Ramos Allud, Mariela Magallanes, Carlos Lozada, Jose Guerra, Richard Cabrera and Tomas Guanipa.

Some of them are outside Venezuela, but they have judicial investigations opened in the country, and others are deprived of freedom, like lawmakers Gilber Caro and Renzo Prieto.
