Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil announced this Monday that Venezuela has been reelected to serve as vice president of the United Nations General Assembly during its 80th session (2025-2026).

Specifying that the nation has been reelected for the second consecutive term, Gil stated that "this achievement is a testament to the commitment of the Bolivarian Government and the Venezuelan people to dialogue, sovereignty, multipolarity, the defense of the UN Charter and the right of peoples to self-determination, as well as to a life free from imperialist blockades and sanctions."

He also emphasized that Ambassador Samuel Moncada is once again assuming this important role in the UN General Assembly, carrying forward our Bolivarian Diplomacy for Peace.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged on its social media that during his first year as Vice President of the General Assembly, Moncada actively participated in promoting the debates and work of this body, including issues of economic, social, and decolonization scope.

He also highlighted the important debates related to the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on human rights, the right to development, international cooperation and solidarity, respect for sovereignty, multilateralism, and dialogue among civilizations.

Local media also recognize that the Venezuelan ambassador has also been a leader in the defense of multilateralism, in his role as Coordinator of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter.
