The Decree highlights the risk of using technology for cyber-terrorism and political destabilization

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela issued a decree establishing the National Cybersecurity Council, which aims to prevent and combat the criminal use of communication and information technologies in the country.

Decree N° 4.975, published in the Official Gazette N° 42.939, responds to the growing threat of cyber attacks, which affected key sectors such as the oil industry and the electricity system, in addition to electoral processes.

It also highlights the risk of using technology for cyber-terrorism and political destabilization.

The creation of the Council is a significant step towards strengthening cybersecurity in Venezuela.

 

The creation of the National Cybersecurity Council was published in Official Gazette No. 42,939, which will have the objective of advising Nicolás Maduro and the National Defense Council (Codena) in the development of a policy that allows the protection of digital security.

This body is expected to coordinate government and private sector actions to prevent and combat digital crime, ensuring the country’s sovereignty and stability in cyberspace.

The Council will be responsible for establishing a 24-hour surveillance system for telematics incidents, requesting information from public and private entities on computer security.

It also includes the promotion of training in cybersecurity and the development of specialized equipment, strengthening the telematics infrastructure of the state, proposing laws and regulations to prevent digital crime, as well as creating working committees.
