Hanoi, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) Oil as a national wealth, but also as an instrument to defend the Bolivarian Revolution and the country's sovereignty was the theme of a conference given on Tuesday at the Venezuelan Embassy in Vietnam.

Venezuela's Security and Defense Advisor, Major General Gian Paolo Bajon, gave a detailed account of the struggles in the country to counter the desire by big US transnational corporations to take over that strategic resource.

The policy of successive US Governments on Venezuela has always been inspired by the obsessive idea of appropriating the country's hydrocarbons and due to that, they have resorted to the assassinations of presidents, coups d'etat, blackmail and all kind of pressure, Bajon said.

The so-called Oil Geopolitics, the legacy of the Eternal Supreme Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chavez, the conference is part of a World Day of Action in Solidarity with Venezuela that will take place in two stages, the current one from March to June, and another one from September to December.

Before an audience of Vietnamese friends and Latin American diplomats, Venezuelan Ambassador Tatiana Pugh assured that her Government will not give in to the current coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union.

Like Vietnam at the time, there is a people there determined to defend their natural resources and independence whatever it takes, she stressed.
