Moscow, May 20 (Prensa Latina) Spokeswoman for Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, on Friday described as limited and opportunistic the recent lifting of several restrictive measures on Cuba by the US government.

In a comment published by the Russian Foreign Ministry website, she said that they consider that the measures announced by the United States, although on the right path, are opportunistic and limited.

She added that the measures approved by the White House do not lift the harsh economic blockade on Cuba. They do not affect the restrictions previously imposed on several Cuban organizations and do not open opportunities for tourism.

She stressed that Cuba, for no reason, remains in Washington’s list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

We have to say that with such a general approach, in the eased measures announced by the United States, we see more continuity regarding the goals and instruments against Cuba instead of a relative improvement of Washigton’s political thought, she said.

Zakharova also said that, taking into account the aggressiveness that characterizes the US Cuba policy, the true nature and effectiveness of the measures proposed by Washington can only be judged through the results of their practical implementation.

Finally, she said that they trust that their Cuban friends will continue, with their inherent dignity, to follow their principles in all relevant issues.
