Washington, Jan 7 (Prensa Latina) Former US Defense Intelligence Agency analyst Ana Belen Montes jas been released from prison, according to the US Bureau of Prisons.

The 65-year-old Montes leaves the Carswell prison in Fort Worth, Texas, and will begin a five-year parole regime in the United States, an official report indicated.

The US citizen, daughter of Puerto Ricans, was charged with spying for Cuba for over a decade (1992-2001), tried and sentenced to 25 years in jail.

According to the investigation, there were complaints against Montes in 1996 over fear that she was under the influence of the Cuban intelligence services, but US authorities did not open an investigation against her until four years later.

The FBI arrested Montes on September 21, 2001, and she was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2002 after she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit espionage.
