Montevideo, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) Uruguay reopened its borders to foreigners amid expectations and uncertainties in order to receive tourists.

The Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, waited for the date as “a great day” to see “a light on the horizon” after more than a year and a half of closures and depression in tourism.

For now, he expressed the wish to have a great summer season and see the industry resume work, with an immediate bet on the finals of the South American and Libertadores Cups in the second half of November.

The undersecretary of Tourism, Remo Monzeglio, however, issued a statement to La República newspaper that the ministry sees this perspective with moderate optimism and emphasized on prioritizing health security.

Visitors must have received two doses of recognized vaccines, a negative PCR within 72 hours before traveling and repeat the test seven days after entering Uruguay.

According to the official, the aforementioned sporting events will be “a very big litmus test”, with hotel reservations for the fans starting even now, even in four neighboring departments of Montevideo, the venue for the matches.
