The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) recognized the high level of protection and development of children in Cuba, which celebrates Children's Day this Sunday.

Research by that organization indicated that "the Cuban State demonstrates a strong political will to guarantee the welfare of that social group, especially concerning educational coverage and maternal and child health care."

The text states that despite the complex transformations taking place in the country, there has always been an explicit commitment of the Government and its institutions to maintain the achievements made in protecting children and adolescents.

UNICEF also noted that the net enrollment rate in primary education is 99.1 percent, and the gross enrollment rate in secondary education is 96.4 percent, with high rates of gender parity at all levels of education.

The report also noted that all births are registered, and 99.9 percent are attended by qualified personnel in health institutions.

It also highlighted the priority given to care for people with disabilities as part of a social policy to improve their quality of life and equal opportunities.

Recently, the Ministry of Public Health reported that 97.8 percent of children and adolescents between 2 and 18 years of age have a complete vaccination schedule against Covid-19 after the immunization of more than 1,919,108 people of those ages.

Since 1974, Cuba has celebrated every third Sunday of July Children's Day, for which cultural, sports and recreational activities were scheduled in public places throughout the country.
