Damascus, Feb 17 (Prensa Latina) Two aftershocks recorded by the stations of the Syrian National Seismological Center on Friday caused panic among the population in Latakia and Idlib, local authorities reported.
Residents left their homes and took to the avenues and squares, fearing the repeating of the same scenario of the devastating earthquake that shook the country on February 6.
On Thursday, a 4.7-magnitude aftershock on the Richter scale was registered in Latakia, whose population also felt 44 light seisms since Wednesday.
Early February 6, two above 7.0-magnitude earthquakes shook Türkiye and Syria, leaving tens of thousands of dead and injured, and a huge devastation.
More than 200 aftershocks have shaken the region.
Scientists say aftershocks could continue not just for days but for months or even years.
