U.S. President Donald Trump addressed his Administration's intentions regarding Greenland this Friday, stating that if an agreement is not reached "the easy way, we'll do it the hard way."

During a meeting held at the White House, the leader declared: "We're going to do something about Greenland, whether they like it or not." Over the past month, Trump's threats to take control of the island have taken on a more forceful tone. According to the Republican leader, the U.S. "needs" Greenland for its "national security."

Justifying his stance, he claimed that "if you look right off Greenland right now, there are Russian destroyers, Chinese destroyers, and Russian submarines all over the place. We are not going to allow Russia or China to occupy Greenland, because that is exactly what they would do if we don't act. So we're going to do something about Greenland, either the friendly way or the harder way," he warned.

While clarifying that formally purchasing Greenland is not the current plan—an option he did not rule out proposing later—Trump emphasized that his Government will "do something" with that territory. Otherwise, he argued, Russia or China would end up "occupying it" and becoming direct neighbors of the United States in the far northern Atlantic.
