U.S. President Donald Trump announced that, in addition to the broad reciprocal tariffs already applied to countries around the world, new levies will be imposed on specific products beginning October 1.

“Starting October 1, 2025, we will impose a 100% tariff on any branded or patented pharmaceutical product, unless the company is building its pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in the United States,” Trump wrote on social media.

“Being under construction” will be defined as “breaking ground” and/or “being actively built,” the president explained.

Regarding the massive “flood” of foreign-made products entering the United States, Trump said it is “a very unfair practice, but we must protect our manufacturing process, both for reasons of national security and for other considerations.”

Trump also announced a 25% tariff, effective October 1, on “heavy trucks (big ones!)” manufactured outside the United States.

“We need our truckers to be in good financial shape and strong, for multiple reasons, but above all for national security,” he wrote.

The U.S. Supreme Court will consider in October whether the Trump administration can invoke emergency powers to justify its broad tariffs against other nations.
