Trump with a complete cabinet, but also controversies
especiales
Although the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, completed the appointment of the 15 main positions of the future cabinet in record time, there are stones that bother his shoes.
Such is the case of Pete Hegseth, a former Fox network anchor chosen by the Republican to lead the Department of Defense (Pentagon), but he faces a difficult confirmation in the Senate.
The army veteran will also have to alleviate concerns about the accusations of sexual assault, whose graphic details emerged in a police report published last Wednesday.
His unprecedented status in the direction of an important agency is also under scrutiny, The Hill newspaper reported.
Although no Republican senator has openly opposed Hegseth, it is enough for four legislators from that caucus to vote with the Democrats in opposing the nomination to sink his chances.
The first failure with one of his nominees was former Republican representative for Florida Matt Gaetz, whom he wanted to be attorney general, but the wave of adverse comments was such that the nominee himself refused to have his name considered for the position.
Trump immediately placed a replacement: Pam Bondi, former attorney general also of Florida.
Gaetz's failed proposal is an indication that, even with a Republican majority in both houses of Congress next year, the second Trump administration might not achieve everything it intends regarding the controversial elections for the cabinet.
Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski said she will ask for a thorough examination of these nominations, because "it is what everyone should do" to see what the incoming candidate brings.
Murkowski is one of the few moderate Republicans left in the Upper House. She most frequently opposed Trump in his first term and said she did not vote for him in 2016, 2020 or 2024, the newspaper recalled.
She was also one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump for his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol.
Both Gaetz and Hegseth have several accusations of sexual misconduct and are considered unfit for office.
