With an event at the headquarters of the Italian Seed of Peace Association in Tarquinia municipality, Viterbo province, the 7th Timbalaye Forum of Cuban Culture opened on Sunday, organizers informed.

“Timbalaye” President Ulises Mora, an international promoter of Cuban culture, told Prensa Latina that intellectual Miguel Barnet, an outstanding Cuban poet, writer, essayist, ethnologist and head of the Fernando Ortiz Foundation, attended the opening session.

Other participants were Cuban Ambassadors to Italy and the Holy See Mirta Granda and René Mujica, respectively, members of both diplomatic missions, MEP Massimiliano Smeriglio, Italian-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC) President Marco Papacci, and Seeds of Peace President Luca Bondi.

In his speech during the event, Bondi highlighted the importance of this conclave, which is taking place on Sunday, on the 129th anniversary of the fall in combat of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti.

Both Cuban ambassadors also highlighted the importance of the date and the characteristics of the cultural forum, first held in 2012 to promote permanent dialogue and the exchange of cultural knowledge, traditions, values, and artistic expressions.

The Timbalaye Forum is taking place on May 19, 22, 23, and 25, 2024, in the cities of Tarquinia, Rome, Baia Domizia, and Passo Oscuro, in collaboration with the Seeds of Peace Association and ANAIC, under the auspices of the Cuban Embassy in Italy.

The main theme is “Cuba on the Move: Reflections on anthropology, literature, music, and dance from the Slaves’ Routes.”
