At the first session of a joint working group held between the two countries in the field of communications, the ICT deputy ministers of Iran and Cuba exchanged views to promote bilateral ties, share experiences, and strengthen mutual relations in ICT.

Visiting First Deputy Minister of Communications of Cuba Wilfredo González Vidal and his accompanying delegation held talks with Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Khansari and some senior managers of the organizations affiliated to Iran’s ICT ministry in Tehran.

The two sides explored avenues for strengthening the cooperation in the postal, spatial, regulatory fields, and information technology (IT) parks as well as sharing experiences regarding the electronic government dubbed ‘e-government’.

In his visit to Iran’s National Data Exchange Center, González Vidal and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the performance of some of Iran’s national smart systems including the window of the smart- and electronic government and also the formation of the transactions at two PGSB and GSB ports.

Welcoming the development of digital cooperation with Iran, the Cuban deputy communications minister said that his country is interested in attaining emerging technologies such as satellite construction.

He called for enhanced cooperation between the Iranian and Cuban companies in various postal and technological fields.

A joint working group was set up between the two countries to follow up on the implementation of the programs formulated by the officials of the two countries in the relevant field.

On December 5, on the sidelines of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel’s visit to Tehran, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of the Republic of Cuba.

The main objective of the agreement was to expand scientific and technological cooperation based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, following the relevant laws and regulations, through the development of cooperation projects in the fields of science and nanotechnology, biotechnology, climate change, and other areas agreed by the parties.
