Syrian security forces on Saturday denied the version announced by the US army about the death of Abu al-Hassan al-Hashemi al-Quraishi, leader of the Islamic State (Daesh in Arabic), in mid-October.

According to security sources quoted by national television, the leader of this jihadist group died while fighting the Army in the southern village of Jasim in Dara’a province, and not at the hands of the so-called Free Syrian Army as the US Central Command declared.

They explained that Abu al-Hassan al-Hashemi al-Quraishi, whose death was announced by the organization a few days ago, is the same person known as Abd al-Rahman al-Iraqi, who died during an operation conducted by the Syrian Arab Army in Jasim on October 15.

According to the source, Iraqi terrorist al-Quraishi led Daesh operations and supervised its extension to Jordanian and Iraqi territories. He is also responsible for the assassinations occurred in Dara’a.

On Wednesday, the terrorist group acknowledged the death of its leader, appointed by the organization in March, and designated Abu al-Husein al-Huseini Al-Qurashi as the new caliph.
