The Syrian army launched a counteroffensive against terrorist groups in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib, in northwestern Syria, by laying intense artillery and rocket fire.
Military sources consulted by Prensa Latina explained that after containing the massive attack, the Syrian military managed to recover the towns of Khan Assal, Kefernaha, KeferDaesh, Babis, Bashintrah, Beshkakin, as well as the Tal Rukem hill and the Police School, with the support of the Russian Air Force and allied militias.
Violent clashes are taking place in the city of Maree, where the military expelled the radicals from the majority of the city, while Kafr Batikh and Jobas, in the southeast of the province of Idlib, returned to government control.
At least 400 militants were killed during the clashes, including foreign leaders and mercenaries, while several of their vehicles and armored vehicles were destroyed.
Earlier, large military reinforcements from the Syrian army and allied formations from Russia, Iran and the Lebanese Resistance Movement (Hizbullah) had arrived at the front amid reports of the arrival in the area of Lieutenant General Suheil Al-Hassan, commander of the Special Forces.
At least 35 Syrian regulars and one Iranian adviser were killed, with most of the Syrian army casualties occurring in western Aleppo.
Last Wednesday, terrorist groups launched a sudden attack against the Syrian army in western Aleppo, managing to take control of the 46th regiment base and other military positions, as well as four towns.
