Rome, Dec 15 (Prensa Latina) Italians who volunteered for a clinical study on the Cuban-made Soberana Plus vaccine took part in the second phase of the project, developed by scientific institutions from both countries, in the city of Turin on Wednesday.
The 31-strong group provided blood samples to be contrasted with others taken during the group’s stay in Havana, before immunization, as part of Soberana Plus Turin study, a research carried out by the Finlay Vaccines Institute of Cuba and the Amedeo di Savoia hospital.
The objective is to check the efficacy of the immune response from the Cuban vaccine, as a booster, in people who completed the primary cycle with other immunizers or recovered from Covid-19, according to the Italian Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (Aicec).
Doctors Giovanni Perri, director of the Amedeo di Savoia University Clinic for Infectious Diseases, and Andrea Calcagno, who took the samples, received the study’s participants, as reported by the Aicec, the institution that promotes and coordinates the bi-national initiative.
Dr. Fabrizio Chiodo, a young Italian researcher who is collaborating with the Finlay Vaccines Institute, was also present during the procedure, the organization pointed out in a statement.
