The University of Aleppo, in northern Syria, organized an act of solidarity with Cuba on occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Hundreds of students and professors, and senior officials from the government, the Ba'ath party and the Cuban embassy attended the meeting, held at the Main Lecture hall of that educational institution.

After the national anthems of the two nations were played, Cuba's Ambassador Miguel Porto Parga highlighted the long history of friendly relations that were founded by leaders Hafez Al-Assad and Fidel Castro, and currently continued by Presidents Bashar al-Assad and Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Porto thanked the Syrian youth's solidarity with Cuba facing the unjust blockade and the imperialist onslaught, and praised the firmness and resistance of Aleppo that defeated terrorism and is currently getting out of war.

Mohsen Bilal, president of the Syrian-Cuba Friendship Association and head of Higher Education Bureau in the ruling Ba'ath party, highlighted the solid friendship between the peoples of Syria and Cuba because 'we are united by a common history of struggle against injustice and arrogance.'
