La Paz, August 16 (RHC)-- Faced with threats from the Bolivian right-wing opposition in Santa Cruz, 16 leaders of social groups decided to unite to defend a possible coup d'état against the legitimately elected government of Luis Arce.
This was made known by the former president and leader of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) party, Evo Morales, following the meeting where social groups came together.
"Faced with threats from the right wing and civic groups of Santa Cruz who say they have a recipe to remove "dictator" @LuchoXBolivia, 16 executives of national social forces decided to defend our government and democratic revolution," Evo posted in a message on his Twitter account.
Last Monday, August 9th, about 15 social organizations, unions and labor federations offered a joint press conference where they denounced the destabilization attempts, and declared to be in a state of emergency in view of the events.
In this sense, the representatives of the Mining Workers Union Federation and the Confederation of Peasant Women reiterated their support to Luis Arce and their willingness to remain united in the face of the "recipes to overthrow governments" that the right wing indicates it has.
Santa Cruz is a Bolivian department that encompasses the province of Chiquitos where the Chiquitanía area is located, an extensive Bolivian plain that has been devoured by fires in recent days and was also damaged in 2019, where 6.4 million hectares were consumed.
