The executive director of the platform The People's Forum, Manolo De los Santos, considered today that the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba amounts to a genocidal policy.

One example of genocide the international law provides is depriving people of their food, something we are clearly seeing in the hostility of the US government towards the Cuban people, he declared in Havana.

De los santos, a Dominican-American activist commented that the “same government that finances the genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, also imposes genocide on the Cuban people.”

De los Santos came to Cuba to donate 800 tons of wheat flour acquired as a result of the Let Cuba Live-Bread for our neighbors campaign, promoted by The People’s Forum, an organization based in the United States.

According to him, thousands of citizens from various nations responded to the initiative, “from people who donated one dollar to those who gave thousands of dollars.”

“We spoke directly with 14 companies in the United States and told them clearly: “we want to buy a donation to deliver directly to the people of Cuba,” he said.

None, he stressed, dared to sell us flour. We had to look for other companies all over the world and go as far as Turkey, when we were just 90 miles from Cuba.

That is genocide, that is an act of war, he said.

The donation, whose first delivery was made at the La Viboreña bakery in the capital’s Diez de Octubre municipality, will be distributed in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Mayabeque, Artemisa, Havana and Matanzas.
