Nursultan, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) Russian Deputy Prime MinisterAlexei Overchuk assured that his country´s economy continues to grow despite the pressure of sanctions, speaking at a conference on cooperation between Moscow and Kazakhastan.

According to the senior official, the anti-Russian measures are intended to weaken the economy of that country and their authors hope that they will also dissuade the member States of the Euroasian Economic Union (EEU) from cooperating with Russia, so that they can break the integration ties.

“But thanks to the measures taken by the President of Russia, our Government and the Bank of Russia, the economic war against our country did not go according to the plan of those who unleashed it,” Overchuk warned in his paper “Kazakhstan and Russia. Relevant areas of cooperation within the EEU”.

In this regard, he pointed out that the national economy grew 1.7% in the last four months and inflation practically stopped in May, being at zero in the last week of that month.

However, he acknowledged that the Eurasian nation is experiencing difficulties due to the disruption of existing supply chains linked to Europe, for the most part, but stressed that Moscow is working to create new ones and authorized parallel imports.

“Today we are seeking and establishing ties with new trade partners, primarily in those countries that are not hostile to Russia,” emphasized the deputy prime minister, who expressed Moscow’s readiness to develop new projects with Kazakhstan and other EEU nations in various sectors.
