As part of his tour through the central region today, Viktor V. Koronelli, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cuba, visited the Central Rum Distillery, a Base Business Unit (UEB) renowned for producing rums of national and international prestige.
Luis Alberto Navarro Socarrás, the production director of the institution, located in the municipality of Santo Domingo in Villa Clara, explained to the press that the factory has a distillery with an installed capacity of 29,900 daily liters, which has processed up to eight million liters of rum in a single year.
He further added that within the bottling line, they have the capacity to process 3,500 cases in an eight-hour work shift and intend to develop other variants for bottling more exclusive rums.
Currently, the industry has five aging warehouses holding 50,000 barrels of different varieties of rum, as well as several raw material warehouses and a testing laboratory.
The Russian diplomat showed particular interest in the implementation of renewable energy sources. He learned that, since 2016, the Central Rum Distillery has installed four structures with 1,772 photovoltaic panels, with a generation capacity of 552 kilowatts. Forty percent of this energy supplies the industrial activity, while the remainder is delivered to the national power grid.
For his part, Javier Gómez Regalado, Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Santo Domingo, reported that there are currently two solar photovoltaic parks in this municipality: La Criolla, with an available capacity of 4.4 megawatts, and Bermejal, with 21.8 megawatts.
Founded in 1972, the Central Rum Distillery is distinguished today by producing rum brands with great national and international prestige, such as Cubay, Eminente, and Isla Grande. It also employs a staff of 172 highly skilled workers.
