Havana, Apr 21 (RHC)-- The First Deputy Minister of the Food Industry (Minal), Lázara Mercedes López Acea, thanked the Russian Federation on Thursday for its donation of 19,526 tons of wheat to Cuba in a ceremony held at the headquarters of that organization.

"This is a new expression of the historical and political ties that unite us, developed based on friendship and mutual respect between Cuba and the Russian Federation," stressed Lopez Acea during the official act of handing over the donation.

Lopez Acea recalled that these have been challenging years for both nations, in a context  "marked by the confrontation with the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on the world economy".

She thanked Russia and the World Food Program for their efforts and support, which are highly valued by the Cuban authorities.

She also ratified Cuba's interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation relations, convinced -he assured- "that the practice of solidarity, international cooperation, and multilateralism constitute the path towards a more equitable, fair and sustainable world".

The Russian Ambassador to Cuba, Andrei Guskov, reaffirmed Moscow's intention to continue expanding collaboration with the island.

"This humanitarian cargo was sent to the island by the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation (...) we continue in this way to help the Cuban people, who, along with the Covid-19 pandemic, are forced to face the illegitimate and inhuman U.S. blockade," Ambassador Guskov said.
