Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel regretted on Friday the death of visual artist Ernesto Rancaño; a convinced Jose Marti follower committed to the just causes of the Revolution.
"With the immortality of pure creators and an army of hummingbirds escorting his transit to eternity, Ernesto Rancaño has left us in the plenitude of his life and work. With deep sorrow, I embrace his widow and his children. Cuba mourns his departure," the president tweeted.
On Twitter, the Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, said that Rancaño is one of the most talented and good people he knew.
"His death is disturbing and leaves us orphans of his generous friendship, of his quiet and deep loyalty, of the charm of his angel. Artists like this do not go away completely. You continue, you will continue among the good ones, dear brother, @he pointed out.
According to cultural authorities, the artist, who died of cancer at the age of 53, was the creator of a refined visual universe, where elegant formal beauty, exquisite poetics, and overflowing Cubanness stand out.
The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba's President, Luis Morlote, expressed his infinite sadness at the loss of a great brother, an extraordinary human being, a total artist committed to Cuba, its Revolution, and its people.
Graduated in Painting and Drawing at the National School of Art in 1991, Rancaño is considered one of the most influential artists of his generation. He extended his extensive work to all media and disciplines and is part of prestigious collections in Cuba, America, and Europe.
