Remittances between the U.S. and Cuba suspended starting November 23

The Cuban financial company FINCIMEX and the US-based Western Union agreed to suspend remittances as of November 23 due to Washington's unilateral measures against Cuba.

From the Twitter profile of CIMEX  Corporation, its parent company,  FINCIMEX explained that it held negotiations with the U.S. company to establish by mutual agreement and with sufficient notice the procedures for the orderly suspension of the remittances from the U.S. to Cuba.

As a result of the exchange, the final date to send money with Western Union from the U.S. to Cuba will be November 22, at 11:00 PM U.S. EST, and the final date to pick up cash at Western Union agent locations in Cuba will be November 23, at 6:00 PM local Cuba time.

FINCIMEX  kept Cuban citizens informed through different channels about the unilateral measures of the current U.S. government, 'aimed at suffocating the Cuban economy amid the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,' the statement emphasized.

It reiterated that the interruption of that service between the two countries is the White House's sole and exclusive responsibility.

Besides, it ratified its commitment to the island's families in the interest of identifying and sustaining orderly and safe flows of remittances.
