Recovery efforts continue in wake of Hurricane Rafael

Five days have passed since Hurricane Rafael passed through the west of the country, which left extensive damage to the electrical infrastructure, as well as to agriculture and housing.
Updating the situation of the national electrical system and the progress of the recovery process of the provinces affected by Hurricane Rafael, engineer Lázaro Guerra Hernández, general director of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, reported in the Buenos Días Magazine that one of the priorities of today is to increase electricity coverage in Artemisa and reach Pinar del Río.
Havana is already at 95.6% of electricity coverage, Mayabeque at 89.7%, while Artemisa is only at 1.48%; these are the provinces that suffered the most damage from the passage of Hurricane Rafael, said Guerra Hernández.
The most important thing in this regard, he reiterated, is that substations in Artemisa are already starting to be heated to begin increasing electricity coverage and also to reach Pinar del Río, which does not have any damage to the network at the moment but still does not have an electrical system.
